Greave's link to learning theories

Six months ago I revisted key learning theories; today I have looked back on these and can now reflect on how my practice in forest school sessions is linked to the theories.

I have discovered that Forest School is chiefly about children finding things out and discovering things for themselves. The sessions that are planned in Greave’s Forest School are very open-ended and guided by the children during the session – this is using Piaget’s idea of first-hand experiences
The theory of the Zone of Proximal Development is seen when children take on new challenges in different environments. At Greave’s Forest School adults will observe and interact with children to give appropriate support at the right moment – rather than treating all learners the same. This approach allows a personalised approach and can really boost learning.
